Gingham

The theme my photographer and I chose to emulate was to shoot in natural daylight, in a "fashion for breakfast" style cafe shoot. The idea was to capture this neutral look solely inspired by Parisian street cafe's with a similar essence in downtown Los Angeles. We chose to shoot at Zinque Cafe on South Broadway Street, where it's essentially quite busy, and the city life tends to be most lively.

My favorite thing about this dress is by far the classic gingham print. The gingham style may have been one of the more slept on trends for 2021, yet I sense it will make a strong comeback, come 2022. One of the easiest ways to dress a good gingham piece, is by color blocking with white accessories. I live for pairing neutral colors together, so this was an easy sell since it works with a lot of things that currently reside in my closet.

As a stylist first, I mull over ultra feminine silhouettes. So a good cut-out dress is always a go-to for me.

The balloon sleeves was a major trend this year, and also a timeless style that we can expect to experience for many seasons ahead.

Another thing I adore mostly about this gingham moment is by far the roughing.

Whether you have a narrow shape in the hips, or tend to be wider; roughing is going to give the appearance of more hip volume all the while smoothing the shape to increase curvature where needed.

Aside from the obvious youthful appeal, this dress is a closet staple that I know I'll wear for years to come. One of the many reasons I choose to purchase specific items, are that they are cohesive enough in style to be curated into various outfits. There's nothing better than having a curated closet. Not having to think so hard about what to wear is a fashion tool that's highly underrated.

Style Tip: Unless it works with at least three outfits I already own, I don't buy it.

In short, gingham wins my heart over in more ways than one. I think every woman ought to own at least one carryover piece in bold, classic print.
