minimal $uit

There's a hot new trend in suiting that's one worth trying. The crop blazer top that we're seeing a lot of in different styles from retailers worldwide, particularly British brands like: Missguided, Oh Polly and Pretty Little Thing have been taking this trend by storm lately.

This style has a distinctive design in that it laces up at the rib. I'm really into form fitting pieces, and I love how this blazer can be adjusted to your preference.

Whether you prefer a loose, or tailored fit in your blazer, this style can double as a top, be worn over a dress shirt, or separately.

I adore showing a little midsection, as I've worked very hard on my abs over the years, and there are so many ways it can be done tastefully.

Being that we shot this outfit in the summer in eighty degree weather in Los Angeles, it was imperative to dress for the season.

With comfort in mind, and a minimal look to boot, the focus was all on the details of this set without taking away from it's intended design.

My photographer and I shot this in the identical downtown LA location as the taupe blazer look, that I featured on the blog previous to this post. The goal was to stand out in the frame, and wearing a black head-to-toe suit was a brilliant idea in terms of statement and contrast.

For me, it's a subtle mix of pairing sleek tailoring with volume that makes for effortless style.

Some of the features I enjoy most about this outfit are the shoulder pads, for a bit of eighties revival. I am heavy on lace-up everything this season, and the high-waist flares just do it for me all around.

All in all, the appeal in this look is that it's edgy, and a closet staple that can be mixed and matched with other styles and for me, that's a no brainer in terms of functional pieces with closet demand.

If your on the fence with a crop blazer, keep in mind it is a seasonal look. So depending on where you live, it can be of compliment if you live some place where it's warm more than 50% of the year. Figuratively, everything you buy should make sense.

Closet curating advice: Make sure that everything you purchase is worth the investment when building a capsule wardrobe. Some things that look like beautiful designs are poorly made and won't last beyond a wash. A lot of the fast-fashion retailers that I tend to shop for blog features have minimal wear. So invest wisely.
